Amazon S3 Buckets - Quick Overview

Every file you upload to Amazon S3 is stored in a container called a bucket. Bucket is a top level container for your objects.

In order to start uploading files to Amazon S3 you have to create at least one bucket.

The bucket namespace is shared by all users of the system; therefore each bucket name should be unique. For this reason, you can not create the bucket named images, it is already taken. AWS recommends to choose the bucket name that is relevant to you and your business, avoid using names associated with others.

By default you can create up to 100 buckets per account. Each bucket can contain an unlimited number of files. If you need additional buckets, you may contact AWS via the Service Quotas console and the limit could be increased up to 1,000 buckets.

Buckets cannot be nested, you can not create a bucket within a bucket.
