How to Use a Bucket Shared by Another Amazon S3 User

CS Browser Freeware allows you to work with Amazon S3 buckets shared by other users (these are called External Buckets), even if you are not signed up for Amazon S3. All you need is an AWS or IAM account. Of course, you can also work with External Buckets if you have an Amazon S3 account.

To connect to an External Bucket:

1. Download and install CS Browser.

2. Enter your Access Key ID and Secret Access Key .

3. Click Buckets->Add External Bucket.

Click Buckets->Add External Bucket menu item

Click Buckets->Add External Bucket. You can also use Ctrl+E keyboard shortcut

The Add External Bucket dialog will open:

Enter name of the bucket or access point ARN you want to connect

Enter the name of the bucket or access point ARN you want to connect. You can also specify a directory.

4. Enter the name of the bucket or the S3 Access Point ARN you want to connect to and click Add External Bucket. The bucket should exist and you should have permissions to work with it. You may also specify a folder name if you have access only to a particular folder in a bucket.

If you specify an S3 Access Point ARN (for example, arn:aws:s3:us-east-1:123456789012:accesspoint/my-access-point), CS Browser will automatically convert it to the corresponding bucket alias and use it for access.

The external bucket is added. Now you can upload, download, copy, move files to and from this bucket.

External Amazon S3 Bucket is added

The external bucket is added. Now you can work with it according to the permissions you have.
